How To Become A Successful Businesswoman

In 2010, the Australian Bureau of Statistics stated that 33% of all small business owners in the country were women.  Additionally, those numbers are growing steadily and will keep doing so as more and more mums launch their own business after having children.  According to SmartCompany, 2/3 of the successful women on their list launched their businesses from home while 80% of them had less than $100,000 in start-up capital.

While having children was once a barrier to success, a broadband computer connection, modest amounts of capital, relevant skills, and a sound business idea has provided the flexibility needed to start their own companies.  The following is a list of the steps they took to launch their business and be successful at them:

Stage 1 – Prepare For Specific Challenges

  • Be assertive in your endeavours
  • Be confident that you will succeed
  • Consider entering a field that has fewer women in it
  • Handle constructive criticism and avoid destructive criticism
  • Overcome wage inequalities
  • Read about the world’s most successful businesswomen
  • Research those women operating in a similar field or industry
  • Strike a balance between family and work

Stage 2 – Follow These Steps To Success

  • Be persistent and never be afraid of failure
  • Be willing to learn more and continue educating yourself
  • Don’t be afraid of hard work (you’re a mum; you’re used to hard work
  • Focus on the more important tasks, taking care to finish them one at a time
  • Follow your passion in life once you find it
  • Get organized and learn to prioritize
  • Network with other female business owners in your industry niche
  • Push yourself out of your comfort zone on a continual basis
  • Think and act creatively

Keep in mind that the number of Australian based businesses that are owned and operated by women is continually growing without any indication of slowing down.  So maybe it’s time for you to hop on that ever-growing bandwagon of successful women.
