Do Your Research
If you’re going into business for yourself, make sure you complete your “due diligence” and figure out what kind of market you’re entering into. Plan whatever budget you’re willing to allocate, and what you can bring to the table that makes your business idea stand out. After all, there’s no point in going into business for yourself if the business plan itself isn’t solid.
Schedule, Schedule & More Schedule
You might think that not going into an office or some other workplace means you’ll have more time. Wrong! Going into business for yourself, even if it means working at home, will mean more responsibility and more things you need to manage. Make sure that if part of the reason for your career change is to have more family time, you actually create a schedule that allows this. Otherwise, if you’re at home but have no time for the kids, you’re missing out!
Make Sure You Have Contingencies
It would be fantastic if life always worked out the way we wanted, and nothing ever went wrong, but that’s not the world we live in. If you get sick, or emergencies come up, make sure there’s some kind of back-up plan in place to keep “the machine” running. Don’t let all your hard work come tumbling down just because you got sick and had no plan to deal with it.
